JOE BAKAJ
Chair of Advisory Board
Joe Bakaj is a seasoned executive and board member. He has more than four decades of experience in the automotive, and battery sectors. He has contributed to the strategic direction and operational management of various organizations, including Britishvolt, Ford, and Mazda. In his previous role at Britishvolt, Joe held the position of Executive Vice Chairman, overseeing company operations and supporting its growth phase. Joe spent over 30 years at Ford Motor Company, where he led global engineering teams in developing award-winning products and technologies. His experience also includes managing strategic joint ventures and leading platform engineering development for several key vehicle lines. Recognized for his leadership in powertrain technology and vehicle development, Joe has received multiple automotive industry accolades. He brings a global perspective, having lived and worked in the USA, UK, Germany, and Japan, and is bilingual in English and German.
PROF. DR. ING. ACHIM KAMPKER
Advisor
Achim Kampker is a senior academic, entrepreneur, and board member. He has been a professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University since April 2009. In 2014, he established the Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) and has also served as Vice Dean for Teaching at the Faculty since 2021. Since 2020, he has also been the Deputy Director of the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production (FFB) in Münster. In addition to his academic career, Professor Kampker co-founded StreetScooter GmbH, a company dedicated to developing and producing innovative electric delivery vehicles, where he served as CEO from 2014 to 2019. He subsequently used this experience to found multiple startups in the area of sustainable mobility. Professor Kampker has actively contributed to the advancement of sustainable mobility through his involvement in various initiatives. He was a member of the working group on "Alternative Drives and Fuels for Sustainable Mobility" for the National Platform Future of Mobility (NPM) in Berlin and served on the Scientific Council of the NGO Agora Verkehrswende in Berlin. In 2019 he founded and has since Chaired Engineers Save the Earth e.V. Additionally, he is a member of the Supervisory Board of Mahle and member of the Advisory board of the Neumann and Esser Group.
FABIAN SCHMITT
CEO
Fabian Schmitt is an experienced and innovative CEO and CTO. He specializes in full vehicle development, battery technology and sustainable mobility. Fabian brings a practical, hands-on approach to his leadership, drawing from his previous experience as Senior Vice President for Technical Development at DHL (Deutsche Post AG) and as co-founder and CTO of StreetScooter. At StreetScooter, he led a technical team from a blank sheet of paper to production of over 30,000 electric delivery vehicles. His work included developing the complete vehicle as well as the battery pack development (and production) and delivery of a connected car with OTA capability. He is currently the Head of the Zero Emission Truck Division at the PEM Chair of RWTH Aachen University, where he has led complex engineering projects, including the development of the Hydrogen Electric Modular Powertrain for trucks and the Pantograph Truck Project. Fabian has also been managing director of ConAC since its formation in 2013.
